The story so far...

There are three related collections that make up this Resource:

  1. Genetics of Diabetes Audit and Research in Tayside 1 (Go DARTS 1) January 1997-October 2004-a pilot study
  2. Wellcome Trust Type 2 Diabetes Case Control Collection – WTCCC (Go DARTS 2) October 2004-May 2009
  3. WTCCC extension (GoDARTS 3) October 2009 ongoing
  • Blood Pressure
  • Blood Pressure
  • Waist Measurement
  • Family history of diabetes
  • exercise and smoking history
  • blood samples
  • biochemistry
  • Whole blood for DNA and RNA
  • Serum for biomarkers
  • Urine for microalbumin, metabolites, proteins

For the current collection, patients from Tayside and Fife consent to baseline measurements as indicated above. To enrich this collection, consent is also given by patients for anonymous retrospective and prospective follow up relating to diabetes derived from the patients’ medical records. This follow up is possible due to the availability of anonymous clinical datasets managed by the Health Informatics Centre at the University of Dundee e.g retinopathy, prescriptions, biochemistry, hospital stays, deaths.

All aspects of management of the resource is the responsibility of the Access Group that meets regularly to consider requests from researchers. Access to the baseline tissue samples is managed by the Tayside Tissue Bank. The Access Policy is available on the website
