Erica Liu
Erica Liu Erica Liu joined Dundee genetic epidemiology group in November 2009, as a Ph.D. student funded by College of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing (MCDN), University of Dundee. Her current studies focus on identifying genetic polymorphisms underlying diabetic retinopathy susceptibility, under the framework of population-based case-control genome-wide association analyses.

Personal Description for Natalie Van Zuydam BRI

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Genetics and Microbiology and an honours degree in Genetics at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. I conducted the research for my masters at the University of Pretoria, South Africa where I developed a diagnostic tool for the identification of a group of plant pathogenic fungi.

I am currently a PhD student in the Biomedical Research institute at the University of Dundee. During my PhD, I aim to identify genetic determinants of coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease using bioinformatic and statistical approaches. This involves deriving the phenotypes from the Go-Darts population and combining it with the available genotypic data in order to identify candidate genes that may contribute to the disease of interest.
